While seeing old friends and family during the holidays can be the best part of the year for some, for others it can raise feelings of sadness, loss, and disappointment. Seeing family members can revert people to childhood patterns which might be especially painful if those patterns are something the person believes he has worked through. Anxiousness and depression are not unusual during the holidays, especially for those who have suffered a recent loss. Keeping a regular routine through the holiday season works to help alleviate any additional stress. Being careful not to overindulge in food or alcohol during the season helps as well, as it avoids later feelings of guilt at the overindulgence.
