American journalist Hal Borland once wrote: “Knowing trees, I understand the meaning of patience. Knowing Grass, I can appreciate persistence.” In order to achieve big goals, people need to display the same patience as a tree. Just as trees take many years to grow into the large, impressive plants that they are, an important goal takes time to accomplish and requires sustained nourishment over that time in the form of studying, self-improvement, and consistent work toward the goal. People also need the persistence of grass, which can break through concrete to live or can grow on rocks. Like grass, a person needs to persist in their goals no matter what obstacles block the path.
