Psychologist Margaret Wehrenberg writes that the biggest mistakes she’s made in her life involved struggling to make something work despite all evidence that it wasn’t going to happen. Things in the vein that others may relate to include staying at an intolerable or poor job hoping for a raise from a boss you know won’t give it to you, or spending years trying to resuscitate a dying relationship. Often, as this happens, the advice your hear is to keep trying. But just as it is important not to give up on goals too easily, it is also important to realize which battles can be won.
